Marvel Entertainment and Walt Disney Pictures have released the first teaser trailer for Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Ragnarok” which gives us a first look at Cate Blanchett’s Hela in fighting form, new looks at Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Idris Elba’s Heimdall, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster – and the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
Set to the original Led Zeppelin version of “Immigrant Song,” it’s a surprisingly serious piece that all builds around one joke. The film has also rejected the conventional and dull polished fantasy of the second film, gone back to the more problematic but also decidedly more fun Shakespearian space opera of the first, and then appears to go even further to truly embrace the camp to near “Flash Gordon” levels.
The clip also reveals a bit of the plot – Hela has taken over Asgard, shattering Mjolnir banishing Thor to a planet where he’s become the latest in a gladatorial contest. “Thor: Ragnarok” opens in cinemas on November 3rd 2017.
