The first trailer has arrived for Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name,” the Eddie Murphy-led biopic feature about comedian and blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore.
Moore’s X-rated stand up was infused with rapping and rhythm and he became popular for his martial artist pimp character Dolemite who got a big screen adaptation in 1975 that was such a hit it spawned two official sequels.
Titus Burgess, Keegan-Michael Key, Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Snoop Dogg, and Wesley Snipes all star in the film while Craig Brewer (“Hustle and Flow”) helms from a script by Golden Globe and Emmy Award winners Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (“Ed Wood,” “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson”).
“Dolemite Is My Name” will debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival ahead of a release in cinemas and on the streaming service this Fall.
