Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first set of official photos from Michael Dougherty’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” the third in a planned Monster-verse of films following the 2014 reboot and last year’s “Kong: Skull Island”.
Speaking with EW about the film, Dougherty says: “The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting. There’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters. Godzilla himself takes on Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah in the film who all vie for supremacy and leave humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance, Zhang Ziyi, Aisha Hinds, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Thomas Middleditch co-star.
The film is expected to show off a first look at scenes at this year’s Warners presentation at San Diego Comic-Con next weekend. The movie itself is set to open in cinemas on May 31st 2019.
