Last week we got the first real indication that the long-gestating sequel to iconic 1980s Eddie Murphy comedy “Coming to America” was more than a pipe dream.
Attendees at CinemaCon saw the first look at Murphy and co-star Arsenio Hall back together for a filmed scene to promote the film. So is the movie in production then? Turns out, not quite yet.
Recent Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter (“Black Panther”) has revealed that she has officially boarded the project, and is leaving Wakanda behind for Zamunda. With the announcement, she’s posted some behind the scenes photos with Murphy and Hall and confirmed pre-production is well underway – though it’s not clear when filming begins.
Craig Brewer helms the film and just recently filmed “Dolemite Is My Name” for Netflix with both Murphy and Carter involved. “Coming to America 2” is set to arrive in cinemas August 7th 2020.
