Filming on Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” has officially wrapped. Brian Herbert, son of original “Dune” author Frank Herbert, confirmed that shooting is now complete and there has already been a wrap party.
In fact, he’s gone so far as to share the cocktail menu from said party including such mixes as Mind Killer, Ride the Worm, Ballad of Gurney and Fat Baron. Filming on the project kicked off March 18th in Hungary followed by a lengthy shoot in Jordan and according to reports, things went smoothly.
The first of two proposed films based on the iconic novel, the story is set in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) whose noble family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only planet capable of producing the highly valuable resource known as the spice melange which allows for space travel, control of Arrakis is highly contested amongst the noble families.
When the Atreides are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as a betrayed Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis. Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Stephen McKinley Henderson also star.
Villeneuve will also direct the pilot and executive produce the “Dune: The Sisterhood” series for HBO Max, the show provides connective tissue back to the movies. You can see a picture below of a writer’s room being assembled for the project.
“Dune” arrives in cinemas on November 20th 2020.
