Seventeen years after the franchise began, production is now underway on the first “Fast and the Furious” spin-off film. “Hobbs and Shaw” began filming today with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles.
Johnson, who has been busy filming Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” shared a first photo from the set below. Johnson’s Agent Luke Hobbs was introduced in “Fast Five” and Statham’s Deckard Shaw in the end credits of “Fast and Furious 6”. While on opposite sides in the seventh, the eighth film had the two paired together and the chemistry was so good that the idea for a spin-off was born.
The new film also stars Idris Elba as the villain, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” actress Vanessa Kirby as Shaw’s sister, and Helen Mirren as the Shaw family matriarch following a brief role in “The Fate of the Furious”.
Chris Morgan pens and David Leitch helms the film which is kicking off its shoot in the UK ahead of an August 2nd 2019 release.
