It’s official, HBO has given the green light for its “Deadwood” movie with shooting aiming to begin in October for a Spring 2019 airing.
HBO programming president Casey Bloys made the announcement at the TCA summer press tour on Wednesday, saying: “All of these people worked hard to get this together. Its been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together, but we are there. It is greenlit.”
The film will both continue and close out the iconic HBO series which ran for three seasons and 36 episodes before ending in 2006. Still considered one of the best television series of all time, the cast included the likes of Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, and John Hawkes.
Bloys adds that while the October date is being targeted, it is not set in stone as yet. He has previously praised the script he got for the film from series creator David Milch.
He also announced the network is hoping to begin production on its “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot next year with the search for a director currently underway.
