“Daredevil” Axing Wasn’t About Ratings

It has been pretty clear that the cancellation of “Marvel’s Daredevil” on Netflix had nothing to do with lack of critical love or even soft ratings and was more about corporate politics and the pending Disney+ launch.

A new report from Parrot Analytics confirms that viewership was not the problem.

The company releases a weekly report about which streaming series are the most ‘in demand’ across all the services and their latest results have “Daredevil” as the fourth-most ‘demanded’ series across all streaming services in last week with 29.9 million ‘demand expressions’.

The just debuted “Narcos: Mexico” was understandably on top, second was the recently launched “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”,” and third was perennial favourite “Stranger Things”. The talk of the cancellation also had no real impact as the numbers reportedly only gained 2% over the previous week when there was no talk of a cancellation.

The end of the Marvel/Netflix relationship seems certain at this point, with “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” likely to also get the chop after their new seasons air next year.
