Emmy Award-winning “Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin and series stalwart Ted Elliott have been hired develop the story for the rebooting sixth instalment in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise at Disney Pictures.
The new film, which was previously being scripted by “Deadpool” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who exited earlier this year, isn’t expected to bring back leading man Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow who has dominated the franchise since its inception.
Elliott co-wrote the first four films with Terry Rossio, while Mazin’s credits have mostly been in the sequel realm and have included the third and fourth “Scary Movie” titles along with the second and third “The Hangover” films. He also penned next month’s “Charlie’s Angels” reboot.
Jerry Bruckheimer will return as producer for the new film which hasn’t targeted any dates as yet.
