Gemma Chan (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Humans”) and Barry Keoghan (“Dunkirk,” “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”) are being tapped to join Chloe Zhao’s “The Eternals” film at Marvel Studios.
Chan had a tiny role as a very blue and covered up Kree Starforce officer Minn-Erva in “Captain Marvel,” the character essentially dead by film’s end. Here though she reportedly will play one of the leads in the film alongside Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden is Ikaris, Lauren Ridoff is Makarri, Brian Tyree Henry as Faustus, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Kumail Nunjiani, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Salma Hayek as Ajax the Leader.
Two lead Eternal characters – Sersi and Karen – have not yet been announced and speculation has been high regarding those. Could she be playing one of them? Keoghan’s role meanwhile is unknown.
The Jack Kirby-created comic centers around the superpowered near-god beings The Celestials and their villainous adversaries the Deviants in a galactic war millions of years ago. The Celestials experimented on humans creating both races of immortal spin-offs.
Matthew and Ryan Firpo wrote the script for the new film which Kevin Feige is producing. “Eternals” will premiere November 6th 2020.
