Having successfully rebooted “Hawaii Five-O” and “MacGyver” for CBS, writer/producer Peter Lenkov is now setting his sights on a reboot of 1980s Tom Selleck-led series classic “Magnum P.I.” for the network, CBS Television Studios and Universal Television
Dubbed an updated version of the original series, the action follows decorated ex-Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum who returns home to Hawaii and re-purposes his military skills to become a private investigator.
With help from fellow vets Theodore ‘TC’ Calvin and Orville ‘Rick’ Wright, as well as that of disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins, Magnum takes on the cases no one else will.
The project has scored a pilot production commitment at the network and Eric Guggenheim will write and executive produce. John Davis and John Fox will also executive produce.
The project is separate from ABC’s failed attempt at a sequel series titled “Magnum” developed last year that would have seen Eva Longoria playing the daughter of Selleck’s Magnum.
