“Captain Marvel” Heads For $350M Weekend

It’s up to “Captain Marvel” to save the world from sluggish movie ticket sales this weekend.

With the U.S. domestic market down by 26% from last year at the same time, it’s hoped the new Marvel Studios film will supercharge the sluggish marketplace with the film on track for a $120-140 million domestic and as high as $350 million worldwide opening this weekend.

That global debut looks like it will be higher than “Wonder Woman” ($228M) and “Deadpool 2” ($300M) but likely behind “Black Panther” ($371M). Advance ticket sales are breaking records for the title and the film sits at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes from 170 reviews.

In addition, China is hot for the film with pre-sales there surpassing all other superhero films save “Avengers: Infinity War” at the same point.
