Bannon Leads Batman Butler Prequel Series

Young British actor Jack Bannon (“Fury,” “The Imitation Game”) has been cast in the lead role of Alfred Pennyworth in Epix’s ten-episode Batman prequel drama series “Pennyworth”. In addition Ben Aldridge (“Fleabag,” “The Devil’s Whore”) has scored the co-lead role of Thomas Wayne.

The one-hour drama series follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, in his younger days. The former British SAS soldier forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne in 1960s London.

In the series, Alfred is cheerful, charming, clever and witty. However he doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become, and he doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.

“Gotham” executive producers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon serve in the same capacity here. Production on the series will begin next week at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.
