Another “Jumanji” Targets Christmas 2019

It may not have much in the way of buzz, but Sony’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” has proven a surprise massive hit – quietly and consistently racking up earnings in the past month to the point it has become a box-office monster.

The Dwayne Johnson-led film, which has topped the box-office the past three weeks, currently stands at $769 million worldwide – more than $300 million of that being domestically where it has surpassed “Skyfall” to become Sony’s highest grossing non-“Spider-Man” film to date.

Combined with being shot for a reasonably economical $90 million, it comes as no surprise that Sony head Tom Rothman is aiming to have the follow-up in cinemas for Christmas 2019 according to a new report in The Wall Street Journal.

While there‚Äôs no official announcement just yet, the film would open opposite “Star Wars: Episode IX” on December 20th – not unlike last year where ‘Jungle’ opened days after ‘Last Jedi’ and both have managed to be major hits.
