Universal has unveiled what is being dubbed an announcement trailer for “Cult of Chucky,” the seventh film in the “Child’s Play” franchise which is set to begin production in Canada next week ahead of a direct-to-video release this Fall.
In the film, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) has been confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family.
But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic ‘tool’ to facilitate his patients’ group sessions – an all-too-familiar ‘Good Guy’ doll with an innocently smiling face – a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t.
The film marks a reunion of numerous cast members including Brad Dourif returning to voice the role of the titular killer doll, his daughter Fiona reprising her role of Nica Pierce from 2013’s “Curse of Chucky,” Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay from the first two films, and Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany from “Bride of Chucky” and “Seed of Chucky”.
Franchise creator Don Mancini penned and directs the new film which will be released unrated on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
