Paramount Pictures and Skydance have premiered a new poster for “Ex Machina” director Alex Garland’s new sci-fi thriller “Annihilation”.
Based on the first part of novelist Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy, the story deals with ‘Area X,’ land that has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades, and a place where nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization.
Now four women make up the twelfth expedition: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain and collect specimens, to record all their observations and to avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.
Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac star in the film which hits cinemas in the U.S. and Canada on February 23rd, and will be released direct to Netflix around the rest of the world in March.
