In a surprise report, major Australian newspaper The Herald-Sun has posted an article claiming that a prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” is in the works and will be filmed in and around Broken Hill in Australia.
The paper’s apparent source says pre-production is gearing up with filming beginning as early as the end of the year and Tom Hardy returning as Max. ‘Fury Road’ was going to be shot in the Broken Hill area originally before rains turned the usually barren area green which forced the production to move to Namibia.
Now though Broken Hill is barren again and the paper says “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” which will focus on the backstory of Furiosa, is hoping to setup in the location. The report adds that a studio rep told them: “We would certainly welcome Mad Max coming back to its spiritual home.”
Unfortunately as far as can be told, nobody involved with the film or Warner Bros. Pictures has officially said anything to any other outlet which puts the report in question. Hardy most recently filmed Chris Nolan’s “Dunkirk” and the upcoming TV series “Taboo”.
