Hot on the heels of news of a David Bowie movie, French studio Gaumont has revealed they’re working on a $23 million budget French film about Canadian singer Celine Dion.
“The Power of Love” will be directed by Valerie Lemercier (“Palais Royal”) who also will star as Dion in the story following her life from birth and modest upbringing to her extraordinary rise to fame as a teen. It will also cover her relationships with her manager and husband, Rene Angelil, and her family.
Though seemingly a biopic, Gaumont claims the project is more of a “fictional homage” of sorts – not unlike the upcoming Elton John movie “Rocketman”.
Some of Dion’s biggest hits like “All by Myself,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “I’m Alive” will be included as the singer and her record company have authorized the project and given it rights to her songs.
Filming takes place in France, Spain, Canada and Las Vegas over four months starting in March. Edouard Weil (“Climax”) will produce and a December 2nd 2020 French release is already set.
