The upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will serve as both a conclusion of the current trilogy and of the overall Skywalker Saga that began in 1977.
It’s expected this will be the last time characters like Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe will grace the big screen – and the actors have made it fairly clear they’re done.
Talking to Variety, Boyega says he has no plans to end up on a “Star Wars” TV series ala “The Mandalorian”. He tells the trade: “You ain’t going to Disney+ me! I ain’t getting no Disney+! I’m watching it, though, but I’ll stay in the feature films.”
He adds that if Ridley and Isaac are willing to come back then he will, but the others are just as adamant that it’s over. Isaac says: “[I’m] happy and feeling fulfilled that the task is complete. So I can’t imagine what it would be that would make me want to redo this thing or revisit it.”
Ridley says: “I just don’t know if anything could top this one, honestly. I think it’s just a great story and a great close, and even though obviously the characters continue to exist, it would have to be so extraordinary [to return], and I don’t know if that’s possible.”
That looks like all she wrote for this franchise. Meanwhile their new co-star Richard E. Grant has reviewed ‘Rise of Skywalker’ on his Twitter channel in a short video and it’s worth watching for the sheer emotional reaction on his face. Critical reviews won’t arrive until December 18th.
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” arrives on December 20th.
Just seen the 1st cast screening of @starwars #THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. What it achieves, weaves & resolves, is a total emotional meltdown & resurrection of the Spirit. Bravo to @jjabrams & his astonishing cast & creative crew pic.twitter.com/EwtYghYTXK
