20th Century Fox is developing a rather different take on the legend of Zorro by shifting him out of the Spanish colonial era of California in which he was set and into a “Mad Max”-esque apocalyptic wasteland.
Entitled “Zorro Reborn”, this re-imagining of the character will forgo many of The Fox’s traditional characteristics in favour of a story fuelled by vengeance rather than justice.
Further story specifics or the actual location of where in the world it will be set have not been revealed, but is said to have shades of both “No Country for Old Men” and Sergio Leone’s classic westerns.
Pre-viz whiz Rpin Suwannath will make his directorial debut on the project, while Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy are penning the script. The writing duo have also penned a new take on Dracula entitled “Harker” which is set up at Warner Bros. Pictures.
