Disney Animation’s “Zootopia” is kicking ass all over the shop, dominating a third straight weekend at the worldwide box office with a global total at a whopping $592 million with the UK and Japan still to go.
Domestically it scored a further $38 million and easily took first place this weekend, its total crossing the $200 million mark, while reviews are ridiculously good – the film currently holding an almost unprecedented 99% (8.1/10) on Rotten Tomatoes with over 150 reviews counted.
In second was “The Divergent Series: Allegiant,” the third film in Summit’s young-adult series which pulled in around $29 million – a big drop from the low-$50 million openings of the previous two films. In third was the faith-based “Miracles from Heaven” which scored $15 million since Friday and $18.6 million since it opened on Wednesday. Budgeted at just $13 million and scoring an A+ CinemaScore, it’ll be a small but profitable little film for Sony.
“10 Cloverfield Lane” came in fourth with $12.5 million, bringing its total to $45.2 million. In fifth was “Deadpool” with another $8 million added to its $340.9 million domestic total. Sixth was “London Has Fallen” with $6.9 million bringing its total to $50 million. In limited release, Jeff Nichols’ “Midnight Special” earned an excellent $36,800 per screen average on five screens.
