“Zombieland” scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been set to pen the live-action feature based on Ubisoft’s highly anticipated video game “Watch Dogs”.
Sony Pictures, New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures Group are developing the film which follows Aiden Pearce, a hacker who turns the city of Chicago into his personal stomping grounds to carry out his own brand of justice after a violent family tragedy.
He’s aided by his ability to tap into Chicago’s ctOS, a centralized operating system that runs the entire city’s infrastructure. This gives him control of everything including traffic lights, surveillance cameras, subway systems and power grids, along with access to people’s personal information.
The project is one of three that Sony, New Regency and Ubisoft are developing together – the other two being the Tom Hardy-led “Splinter Cell” and the Michael Fassbender-led “Assassin’s Creed”.
