Zach Helm (“Stranger than Fiction”) is set to script an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1957 suspense novel “Deep Water” at Fox 2000 says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story follows an upscale suburban publisher husband who, in order to avoid a divorce, allows his wife to have affairs.
He tries to discourage her lovers though by hinting to them that he may have killed her previous husband Malcolm McRae.
Things turns sour when strangers begin to grow wary of him, and the line between fiction and reality begins to blur. The tone is set to be a dark, sexy comedy. Steven Zaillian, Garrett Basch and Ben Forkner are producing
Highsmith is the author of thrillers like “Strangers on a Train” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley” which have both been adapted into cinematic classics from Alfred Hitchcock and Anthony Minghella respectively.
