YouTube has handed out a pilot order to STXtv for “The Edge of Seventeen,” a half-hour comedy series based on the critically acclaimed 2016 Hailee Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson and Blake Jenner-led coming of age comedy feature.
Like the film, the series will subvert standard teen show tropes while following a high-school student and her best friend as they navigate the relationships, feelings, and realities of being a teenage girl.
Not a straight remake or sequel, the series tells new stories but borrows the tone of the film and its commitment to capturing teenage years truthfully.
Annabel Oakes (“Transparent,” “Atypical”) is writing and directing the pilot, which will be executive produced by the film’s writer-director, Kelly Fremon Craig. Shooting begins in January.
