Young Adult Film After Is Getting A Sequel

The first film only opened the other week, but Voltage Pictures has already added a sequel to its young adult steamy romantic thriller “After” to its Cannes sales slate.

Based on Anna Todd’s bestselling novels, which started out on the fan-fiction website Wattpad, the film has grossed over $52 million at the global box-office from a budget of $14 million. The film also opened No. 1 in 17 markets.

The story of the first follows a dutiful daughter and loyal girlfriend to her high school sweetheart who enters her first semester in college where she meets the dark and mysterious Hardin Scott, a brooding rebel who makes her question all she thought she knew about herself and what she wants out of life.

Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin are set to reprise their roles as Tessa and Hardin in the second film. Todd has penned the script for the sequel with Mario Celaya, but there’s no word yet if director Jenny Gage is returning.

Todd, Jennifer Gibgot, Aron Levitz, Eric Lehrman, Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon will produce.
