UK’s Channel 4 and Revolution Films are readying a $10 million trilogy of films revolving around the hunt for the notorious Yorkshire Ripper serial killer says Variety.
Based on three of the four books in British novelist David Peace’s “Red Riding Quartet,” the storylines cover police corruption and perversion of justice in the hunt for the Ripper from 1975 until his detection in 1981.
Peter Sutcliffe was eventually convicted of murdering thirteen women and is currently serving multiple life sentences. Plot elements from the fourth book ‘1977’ will be integrated into the three films.
Julian Jarrold (“Becoming Jane”), James Marsh (“Man on Wire”) and Anand Tucker (“And When Did You Last See Your Father?”) will helm the three projects from screenplays by Tony Grisoni (“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”).
Though being produced as a TV series, both a UK and international theatrical release are initially planned with casting presently under way.
