A concept sketch over at Life, Universe & Combom indicates that this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas Special will apparently see the return of one of the major races from the Who-universe that hasn’t been seen in a very long time – the Yeti.
The sketch shows the new internal Terminator-esque structure of the robotic furballs who frequently terrorised the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton), hinting that we’ll likely see under the skin of the creatures.
Also today several new spoiler photos from the upcoming two-part finale show the unexpected return of two familiar human faces along with numerous enemies of the Doctor including the Daleks, Cybermen, Sycorax, Silurians, Judoon and “Torchwood” regular Weevils. The spoiler shots can be found here (click ‘show’ next to Spoiler).
The first clip includes mentions of Sontarans, Nestene, Atraxi and Slitheen along with old school Who aliens not yet seen since the show’s revival – Draconians, Zygons, Chelonians, Drahvin, and Terileptils (The Ice Warriors seem a notable absence from that list). Unfortunately due to budget restrictions it’s likely we won’t see any re-imagined versions of those classic aliens this time.
