FX has given a pilot order for “Y,” a TV series adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s acclaimed 60-issue graphic novel series “Y: The Last Man”.
Numerous attempts have been made to adapt the property into films or a series in the past, but none have reached past the development stage. For the first time, the project now has an official pilot order.
The story follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something simultaneously kills every mammal on Earth possessing a Y chromosome – including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm.
Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.
“Blade Runner 2049” scribe Michael Green, who recently exited as co-showrunner on “American Gods,” will serve as co-showrunner on this alongside Aida Mashaka Croal. Melina Matsoukas will direct the pilot while Vaughan, Matsoukas, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce.
