X-Men’s McKellen, Jackman, Stewart To Return

As we know 20th Century Fox has no plans to slow down the “X-Men” franchise with “X-Men: Apocalypse” and the spin-off “Deadpool” about to begin shooting, and both a “Gambit” spin-off and a third “Wolverine” solo film in the works.

The older Professor X himself, Patrick Stewart, spoke with Oregon Live recently and revealed surprising news about the last of those aforementioned films. Seems that next “Wolverine” movie could well be essentially a ‘buddy movie’ with Logan and Stewart’s Charles:

“What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done.”

With “X-Men: Days of Future Past” having reset the “X-Men” timeline, it’s not certain what form the new “Wolverine” film could take.

In any case they aren’t the only ones returning though. In the same interview, Stewart revealed that while he isn’t returning for Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” Ian McKellen will be back as an older Magneto in the film:

“Yes, I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next X-Men movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal. But Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it.”

20th Century Fox has not confirmed these reports. Finally today, Bryan Singer has posted a new photo from the set of ‘Apocalypse’ where pre-production is in full swing. The shot showcases Cerebro’s doors but promises something new behind them:

I know. Old door. But there’ll be something new behind it. #XmenApocalypse
