X-Men Tops Memorial Holiday Box-Office

Numbers are still to come for the four-day holiday, but estimates for Friday to Sunday are now in and unsurprisingly “X-Men: Days of Future Past” easily nailed the top spot with a whopping $90.7 million. It’s estimated tomorrow’s four-day estimates will sit at around $110 million.

That’s the second biggest three-day opening figure for the franchise, behind only “X-Men: The Last Stand”. It’s also the fifth biggest Memorial Day weekend opening.

International totals are also in with the film nabbing $171 million from 119 markets outside the United States, bringing its estimated total by end of Sunday to be around $261 million. That’s also the biggest international opener of the year, and 20th Century Fox’s biggest international opening ever.

The Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore rom-com “Blended” came in far behind with $14.2 million for the three-day and is expected to sit at $17.5 million for the four-day. Not a good opening for Sandler.

One person who took a bit hit this week was “Godzilla”. The reboot plunged 66% in its second weekend for a second place haul of $31.4 million for the three-day. Warners isn’t worried though, the film currently has a $315 million global haul after just ten days.

Despite opening poorly last weekend, Disney’s Jon Hamm-led inspirational sports drama “Million Dollar Arm” held on the strongest of the top ten with a drop of just 32.5% in its second week. As of Sunday its total will sit at around $20.6 million
