X-Men Spin-Off “Legion” Casts Female Lead

23-year-old “Fargo” breakout star Rachel Keller has been cast as the female lead in “Legion,” the X-Men universe-set pilot from “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley, filmmaker Bryan Singer, Marvel TV and FX Prods.

Keller’s femme fatale Simone Gerhardt in the second season of the anthology drama was her first major role and left such an impression Hawley and FX decided to cast her in her first leading role.

The story follows David Haller, the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier who – since he was a teenager – has struggled with mental illness. After strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Keller will play a scrappy, optimistic woman in her twenties, but details about her potential powers are unclear though are rumored to be tied to human touch (ala Rogue, Spyke).

Hawley wrote the pilot and serves as an executive producer with Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, John Cameron and Steve Blackman.
