20th Century Fox has officially hired “X-Men” film series writer/producer Simon Kinberg to direct “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” the upcoming follow-up to “X-Men: Apocalypse”.
On top of that, returning cast members have now been confirmed with Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) all set to reprise their roles.
Additionally, Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain is also in talks to sign on for the role of the villain – Shi’ar Empress Lilandra Neramani. Kinberg is producing with Hutch Parker and Lauren Shuler Donner.
Production is slated to begin later this month in Montreal ahead of a November 2018 release.
