X-Men: Apocalypse Comic Con Panel

The cast of Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” turned up in full last night at the San Diego Comic Con to talk about the film, along with showing off the first footage. Considering the movie has been widely reported about, actual details about the story have been relatively scarce with a few more revealed yesterday.

The story is confirmed to be taking place in 1983, ten years after the events of ‘Days of Future Past’. Jennifer Lawrence says her Mystique is much more like Raven again, whilst Michael Fassbender’s Magneto has essentially hung up his cape and is living a more simple life.

The footage, assembled from just the first five weeks of filming, starts with a young Jean Grey having a vision of the end of the world. Rose Byrne’s Moira McTaggert talks about people viewing mutants as Gods and how she’s been tracking one that’s millennia old – the world’s first mutant.

Voiceover of Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) says: “I’ve been called many things over many lifetimes. Ra, Krishna, Yaweh… You are all my children. And you’re lost. Because you follow the wrong leader. Everything they’ve built will fall, and from the ashes of their world we’ll build a better one”.

A scruffy Magneto is shown saying “who the f–k are you?” to a hooded figure who pulls back his hood – it’s the purple skinned and armored Apocalypse who tells him “come and see” whilst a young Storm is flanking him.

Apocalypse has the ability to control other mutants and seems to be gathering his four horseman – Magneto, Storm, Angel and Psylocke with one shot showing the four of them and Jubilee alongside Apocalypse. Other shots include Magneto pulling Xavier by his wheelchair as Mystique yells at him to stop, Xavier in Cerebro saying “I’ve never felt power like this before”, Quicksilver running, a young Nightcrawler, and finally a look at a bald and suited Xavier.

Hugh Jackman meanwhile seemed to confirm rumors that the upcoming third “Wolverine” stand-alone film will utilise the “Old Man Logan” storyline from the comics, whilst Singer suggested that Jackman will likely cameo in ‘Apocalypse’.

Finally the cast were joined on stage by Channing Tatum (Gambit), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), the “Fantastic Four” cast and Stan Lee for a group photo you can see below.
