Writers Set For “Borderlands” Film Adaptation

“Section 6” and “G.I. Joe 3” writer Aaron Berg has been brought onboard to pen the script for the film version of the video game series “Borderlands” at Lionsgate.

Based on Gearbox Software’s popular first-person role-playing shooter game which launched in 2009, the story is set on a frontier planet that was being mined by convicts for the Dahl Corporation.

The company abandoned them there to scavenge amongst the isolated settlements in the barren wastelands filled with dangerous wildlife. People still come to the planet though in search of a mythical vault of powerful alien technology.

The “Borderlands” franchise has sold over 26 million game copies since its launch. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the film which is said to be an “edgy, R-rated” version of the material.

Arad Productions, run by Avi Arad and Ari Arad, is producing the film, which some describe as Mad Max in space. Sources say it’s expected to be an edgy, R-rated take on the material.
