Woody Harrelson is reportedly the top choice and is in early talks to play the mentor to Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo in the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff film about the smuggler’s younger days at Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm.
The movie will be set prior to both “Star Wars: A New Hope” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the rumor being it takes place about a decade before we meet Solo in a Mos Eisley cantina.
Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are producing the film, Shearmur having a good relationship with Harrelson as the pair worked on “The Hunger Games” film series together. Borys Kit adds that Christian Bale was the other big name in the mix for the role.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the film which also stars Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke. Shooting begins this month ahead of a currently planned May 25th 2018 release (though that may get pushed back).
Harrelson appeared in four films last year, and has three more on the way in 2017 including “The Glass Castle,” “Wilson,” and “War of the Planet of the Apes”.
