Woodley Won’t Return If Final “Divergent” Goes To TV

Back in July came word that with the stumbling of “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” at the box-office this Spring, Lionsgate is retooling its plans for the final film in that franchise. Instead, “The Divergent Series: Ascendant” would wrap up the film series as a telemovie which would also be used to launch a new spin-off series set within that world.

The announcement caught many by surprise, including the film series’ leading lady Shailene Woodley who appeared at Comic Con and revealed she found out the same time as everyone else. At the time she said “I need to talk and find out what the details are” before she would be settled on the answer to the question of whether she would return to her role for TV.

In an interview with Screen Rant this while promoting “Snowden,” Woodley was asked whether there’s been an update on Ascendant and whether she’s on board. Well she seems to have made up her mind, here’s her response:

“Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”

“The Divergent Series: Ascendant” looked like it had been planning to start filming later this year ahead of a June 2017 release, that is obviously no longer the case.
