“Wonder Woman” Villain Confirmed

It has long been rumored, but now a report in French magazine Studio Cine Live (via Les Toiles Heroiques) from the set of Patty Jenkins’ upcoming “Wonder Woman” appears to have finally confirmed the film’s villain.

The magazine visited the Italian set of the production last year and has now confirmed that the Greek God of War himself Ares is the villain, and he harbors a grudge against humankind. Sadly the report doesn’t clear up who’ll be playing him in the film.

According to the article, Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor gets involved in the story when he grabs a notebook filled with scientific formulas from an Ottoman base and takes off in a stolen plane. Shot down in the open sea, he’s rescued by Diana.

The scientific formulas in question are for a deadly gas that could wipe out humanity and are of particular interest to Ares whom the Amazons were once enslaved to and revolted with the help of Zeus.

Meanwhile filmmaker Zack Snyder spoke with USA Today and explained how the character will change from her period film to her time in “Justice League”:

“[Wonder Woman finds out] humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing. It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in ‘Justice League,’ she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.'”
