Warner Bros. Pictures, who have been fairly light on the marketing for the upcoming “Wonder Woman” film, have released several new TV spots for it as the big push for the movie is about to get underway. The new spots include first looks at the movie’s CG villain Ares, along with a look at David Thewlis’ role of Sir Patrick Morgan.
Also today, director Patty Jenkins has offered some ideas for where Gal Gadot’s Diana could go in sequels and what Jenkins would like to do with the character. She tells The Toronto Sun:
“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing… I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.
Jenkins says that she deliberately chose an origin story with the first film, because of both simplicity and that the character’s backstory isn’t familiar to many:
Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is…. I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go. I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential.”
Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Connie Nielsen, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Eugene Brave Rock, and Saïd Taghmaoui also star in “Wonder Woman” which opens in theaters on June 2nd. Tickets are now available to pre-order.
