A new photo from Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” has gone online, timed to celebrate star Gal Gadot’s birthday.
In a lovely show of support, Jenkins says: “Happy Birthday to my most spectacular, incredible, amazing, beautiful, loving, powerful, hilarious and awe inspiring friend and partner. I love you more than words can say.”
The new movie fast forwards the action to the 1980s where Diana now takes on a new foe in the form of The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Chris Pine also returns as Steve Trevor.
As previously said this isn’t a direct sequel and recently producer Charles Roven explained what is meant by that to Coming Soon, saying its more akin to the likes of the old school James Bond and Indiana Jones films in that it works effectively as a standalone:
“[Patty Jenkins] was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel. And she’s definitely delivering on that. It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash–Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things, a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. Tugs at the heart strings as well.”
“Wonder Woman 1984” is currently slated to open in cinemas on June 5th 2020.
