Probably the single quietest major release of the Spring is 20th Century Fox’s frequently re-titled thriller “Deception”.
Initially called “The Tourist” during its production, the story follows a mild-mannered accountant (Ewan McGregor) who is introduced to a mysterious sex club known as The List by his lawyer friend (Hugh Jackman).
The accountant soon becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of a woman (Michelle Williams) and a multi-million dollar heist. Natasha Henstridge and Maggie Q also star.
The name was then changed to “The List” a few months back, whilst at the time a low-key international trailer briefly leaked online. Today, with just a month to go before its release, the new title of “Deception” has been announced along with a bare bones official site.
Considering the high-profile stars involved it seems surprising that the film has been quietly buried even if it does stink. Then again sexual thrillers are always tough to market.
