Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are in negotiations to star in Ava DuVernay’s film adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s Newbery Medal-winning children’s book “A Wrinkle in Time” for Disney Pictures.
The story centers on a young girl who finds herself on an interplanetary journey with a schoolmate and her younger brother to find her missing father, a scientist. They are aided on their quest by a trio of supernatural beings, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.
Witherspoon will play former celestial being Mrs. Whatsit, Kaling will play the literature-quoting Mrs. Who. The pair join Oprah Winfrey who is already on board to play Mrs. Which.
DuVarnay helms from a script by “Frozen” writer and co-director Jennifer Lee. Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand are producing. Filming aims to kick off in November in Los Angeles.
