A while back we reported that Len Wiseman (“Live Free of Die Hard,” “Underworld”) was tossing between two projects as his next film – a remake or a video game adaptation, well now it looks like he’s picked one.
Wiseman is in final negotiations to helm “Escape From New York,” New Line Cinema’s remake of the 1981 cult John Carpenter/Kurt Russell movie.
Ken Nolan (“Black Hawk Down”) wrote the script, which will combine an origin story for anti-hero Snake Plissken (Gerard Butler) merged with the story of the original movie.
Set in a near future when Manhattan had been turned into a giant maximum-security prison, Air Force One is crashed by terrorists onto the island. Plissken – incarcerated for robbing a federal reserve bank – is coerced into a Presidential rescue mission and has twenty-four hours to complete it before a poison is released into his system.
