“The Wire” creator David Simon and “The Young Pope” producers Mediapro have begun development of the Civil War drama series “A Dry Run”.
The story will follow members of the Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Battalions who go to Spain from the U.S. to fight fascism during the Spanish Civil War from 1937-1939. The series will be shot mainly in English, the language of the main characters.
The show is presently being conceived as a six-hour miniseries with scripts having been outlined, though that could change as the stories develop. So far “Wire” writers George Pelecanos and Dennis Lehane are committed to return as writers.
Simon and Mediapro are now seeking to raise the necessary funds both in the U.S. and Europe. Simon’s current HBO series “The Deuce” is headed toward a second season.
