Winter Soldier Scores $96M Opening Weekend

Boasting a new April record, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” opened in the United States on Friday and has scored an estimated $96 million opening weekend.

Along with Thursday night previews the film made $37 million on Friday and a further $34 million on Saturday. Both critical reviews and audience response have been strong.

That’s not all. Having opened last week in other countries, the $170 million-budget film’s overseas gross stands at $207 million – bringing the film’s global total to $303 million already.

The sequel dominated the frame in the United States. “Noah” ams in second with $17 million, a drop of 61% from its opening last week. “Divergent” came in third with $13 million.

In limited release, the spooky “Under the Skin” with Scarlett Johansson opened on four screens and managed a very impressive $35,000 per screen average. The Jude Law comedy “Dom Hemingway” also opened on four screens but only managed an $8,000 screen average.
