Winter State Entertainment has begun development of “Rosa,” a feature film about courageous activist Rosa Parks. Producers are fast-tracking the project in order to start shooting next year for a theatrical release.
“Rosa” will chronicle the first 24-hours as they unfold after the arrest of Parks on December 1st 1955. The project will also recognize the contributions to the civil rights movement that she made both before and after the racist incident in Alabama.
Charlie Kessler and Hamid Torabpour penned the script while Brooklyn College’s Professor of Political Science Jeanne Theoharis will serve as consulting producer. Theoharis penned “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks” which received the 2014 NAACP Image Award.
The two scribes will both produce alongside Kerry Orent, Camille Torabpour, Dr. Mark Smith, Patrick Werksma, and Ramfis Myrthil. A portion of the proceeds from the film will be donated to The Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development.
