Some key release date changes today, mostly from The Weinstein Company.
First up, they’ve dated “Sicario” scribe Taylor Sheridan’s directorial debut “Wind River” for an August 4th release. Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen star in the film which premiered at Sundance.
Next comes the Rooney Mara-led biblical biopic “Mary Magdalene” which will score a November 24th limited release. Garth Davis (“Lion”) helms the film in which Joaquin Phoenix plays Jesus of Nazareth, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Peter, and both Tahar Rahim (“A Prophet”) and Ryan Corr (“Wolf Creek 2”) have key roles.
Also on the schedule is the Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon-led “The Current War” about the Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse rivalry. It will open on December 22nd.
Other date announcements this week include Roadside Attractions setting “The Only Living Boy in New York” for August 11th, Sony dating the Christian drama “All Saints” for August 25th, and Warners dating the Glenn Close and Ed Helms-led comedy “Bastards” for December 22nd.
Finally, following its SXSW premiere to rave reviews, Neon has acquired U.S. rights to the Los Angeles mystery “Gemini”. The company hasn’t yet set a date though it is expected later this year.
