“Winchester” stars Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke are set to re-team on the four-episode HBO & Sky limited drama series “Catherine the Great” which Origin Pictures and New Pictures are producing.
The story is set in the politically tumultuous and sexually charged court of Russian empress Catherine the Great (Mirren) who wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century.
Toward the end of her reign, she begins a passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Clarke), a Russian military commander. Amid scandal, intrigue and conflict, they develop a unique and devoted relationship.
Nigel Williams (“Elizabeth I”, Wodehouse in Exile”) pens and Philip Martin (“The Crown,” “Prime Suspect”) directs. Mirren, David M. Thompson, Charlie Pattinson and Philip Martin executive produce.
