Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Jean Smart have signed on to star in the second instalment of FX’s award-winning anthology series “Fargo” according to an official press release from the network. The trio join previously announced leads Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman and Jeffrey Donovan.
Set in 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, this season sees Minnesota state patrolman Lou Solverson (Wilson) investigating a case involving a local crime gang and a major mob syndicate. Solverson is a man four years back from a stint in the Navy during the Vietnam war. A humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband to his wife ‘Betsy’ (yet to be cast), and father to four-year-old ‘Molly’ (yet to be cast).
Danson is Hank Larsson, the Sheriff of Minnesota’s Rock County. An unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou’s father-in-law. Smart is Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family who takes over her late husband’s business much to the chagrin of her hotheaded eldest son Dodd (Donovan).
They join Offerman as Luverne’s town lawyer Karl Weathers, a flowery drunk and effective con man; Brad Garrett as Joe Bulo, the front man for an expanding Kansas City crime syndicate who has his sights on taking over the Gerhardt crime family; Bokeem Woodbine as Bulo’s enforcer and investigator Mike Milligan; and Angus Sampson and Kieran Culkin as the middle and youngest son respectively of the Gerhardt crime family.
Production begins in Calgary on January 19th with the ten episode miniseries slated to premiere in the Fall.
