A while back came word that FOX’s sixth and likely final instalment in the “Die Hard” franchise would be a prequel dubbed “Die Hard: Year One” which would focus on a younger John McClane and have star Bruce Willis involved only to bookend the film with present day scenes.
Turns out Willis may be more involved than expected. Appearing at FOX’s TCA presentation to talk about the upcoming “Lucifer” TV series, director Len Wiseman revealed that Willis’ part is more involved and essentially paints the film along the lines of “The Godfather Part II” in terms of structure:
“He will be more present than that. This character of course is modern day and the origin story if you can call it that has ramifications on present day McClane. What it’s not is it’s not a cameo bookend scenario. It’s a prequel/sequel hybrid that I really haven’t seen before and is incredibly different.”
Wiseman added that he is interested in the origins of the NYPD officer’s relationship with his wife Holly, but the past scenes can’t be too overdone so as not to take away from the weight of the Nakotomi hostage situation in the first film.
