Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo have all signed to star in filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s highly-anticipated four-episode limited series “Central Park 5” for streaming service Netflix.
The story follows five Harlem teens who were wrongly convicted of the brutal rape of a jogger in New York City, with the series covering the time from their first being questioned in the spring of 1989 all the way until their eventual release in 2014 after the ruling was overturned.
At one point, before becoming U.S. President, Donald Trump took out a full-page ad in the Daily News to call for the boys to be executed. DuVernay will helm all episodes of the series which she co-wrote with Robin Swicord, Attica Locke, and Michael Starberry. Filming kicks off in August.
